Invest in Fresh: A Plan for Promoting Healthy Food Retail in Jamestown, New York. University of Buffalo Department of Urban and Regional Planning; page(s) 122; Buffalo, NY. Prepared for the Chautauqua County Health Network.
Residents of the City of Jamestown struggle to access healthy, affordable food for two important and inter-related reasons: First, the economic conditions present in the City of Jamestown make traveling to and affording food difficult for residents. Second, the current food environment of Jamestown—the physical presence of food retail within the city that affects peoples’ diets—offers a limited number of retail locations that offer healthful food. In light of these circumstances, students analyzed the potential of the city to support additional healthy food retail, and outlined feasible strategies with the potential to improve healthy food access and economic development in the city.
