Students from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning worked to help inform the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning on the importance of the food system in county planning. The report focuses on the challenges and opportunities within Erie County surrounding the food system and offers recommendations to the County in regards to farmers, residents, and businesses for strengthening the county’s food system. Twenty recommendations including the creation of a Food Policy Council, establishment of a regional food hub in Erie County, and creation of a county website on agricultural resources. The recommendations were written for the county government, but have been carefully reviewed and considered by other stakeholders in Erie County who are working to strengthen the food system.
