A keynote speech by Dr. Samina Raja at the conference of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association will address the role of planners in supporting healthy communities. The conference will be held on June 13-14, 2013 in Sheboygan,Wisconsin.
The beginning of the 21st century marked a shift in planning practice as planners rediscovered their vital role in creating places that enable people to lead healthy lives. Today planners and public health professionals are working together to use a variety of planning tools and techniques to create places that enable people to access healthy food, be physically active, breathe cleaner air, and support healthy life choices. Dr. Raja’s keynote will highlight opportunities and challenges that planners must consider if they are to play a pivotal role in planning communities as if health matters.
